This Week In Ch33v0z, The Call Of Duty: Far Cry 2 Edition

This has been a slow week in the world of ch33v0z. I've been working at Far Cry 2, but the more I play the more I realize it's total crap. I also had a chance to hit up some co-op in Call of Duty: World at War(finally)! Read on for the scoop on this weeks cheevo haul.



Call of Duty: World At War

This game is a lot of fun. I finally got involved in the online multiplayer, both versus and co-op. Let me tell you, it's a bunch of fun. There is nothing like playing a co-op game with four of your friends! I will note that not all chapters of the campaign are available in co-op, which is a fucking crock. You also can't unlock the cheevos for beating each level while playing in co-op. Of course, there are a couple of cheevz that are exclusive to co-op... so it's worth playing a couple of rounds. I'd like to thank Mike53414, sparkla123, NatUralB187, and GLOBEL007 for helping get a few co-op cheevz.

Weapon of Mass Destruction can be obtained in the very first level of the campaign. Use the naval bombardment to take out the first machine gun nest on the beach. That should get you the cheevo, and if you don't get it there you'll have other opportunities to snag this in the same level.



Far Cry 2

This game is very cheap with handing out the sweet cheevoz. Not only that, but the voice acting is total crap and the game is not much fun. Some aspects are great, but overall it's pretty crappy. I keep contemplating sending this game back, but I'm hoping to squeeze a few more ch33v0z out of this before I toss it aside. I'm going to give it another week.

This Week In Ch33v0z, The Kane and Lost: Geometry Wars 2 Edition

The ch33v0 harvest is in full effect. I've been lucky enough to finish off Lost, and walk away with the full 1000 points. I also played two new games this week! The first is Kane and Lynch: Dead Men, the controversial game from Eidos. The second is a sequel to one of my most beloved games(and it's difficult as hell), Geometry Wars 2. Prepare yourself for the breakdown o' ch33vz.

With all the controversy surrounding this game, I've been wanting to play it for a while. I even had it on my "must buy" list, until I found out that online co-op didn't exist. Truth is, it's not that bad. The story is interesting, while flawed. The characters are fun, and the violence level is just were I like it. However, the controls are awful and the AI (enemies and allies) are horrible. Not only did they forgo the addition of online co-op, but they added cheevos into the mix that require local co-op. That is NOT acceptable. It's a definite rent but by all means do not buy... unless you can get it on the cheap.

Most of the cheevz I've unlocked are story driven and will unlock with time. Some of the levels prove to be rather difficult, and your idiotic AI partners don't make it much easier. Here are a few of the mentionable ch33v0z.
Headmaster is a nod to the classic game Hitman, also produced by Eidos. Just get 47 headshots, easy as pie.

Bulletproof should be easy enough, basically keep yourself and your crew from getting downed (to the point of requiring an adrenaline shot). Do this cheevo on a level were it's just you and Lynch, that way there are less teammates to handle. If you do the level on easy, you can guarantee this one.

Frag Out can be done on many levels, it just requires that you get a group of 5 or more enemies bunched up together(which should be easy, because the AI is too stupid to do anything else). The frag mechanics are a little squirrely, so it may take some practice to get the grenade to land where you want it.

Behemoth is unlocked when you complete your first "boss battle". Basically, you have to headshot the driver of an enormous dump truck. The trick is that you need to hit one of the other enemies that are hitching a ride on the front of the vehicle, before you can take the driver out. Doesn't make much sense, but that's the trick.
Hindsight is a tad annoying as well. The tick is to lead the chopper with the rocket launcher as it passes and tag it, or you can wait for it to hover alongside the building and risk getting machine gunned. Hit the chopper with 3 RPG rounds and you will take it down.

This game is just awful. If you read last weeks post you would know how I feel about it. I did go ahead and snag all of the cheevoz, making a jump of 1000 points in about 5 hours. I sent this thing back asap, and I'm glad it's gone. That's all I want to say about this game, here is the guide if you feel like torturing yourself and playing this game.


Geometry Wars 2

Oh Geometry Wars! How I love your beautiful graphics, fun and challenging gameplay, and the ability to play for 5 minutes without getting tied up in the trappings of a normal game. With that said, I HATE you Geometry Wars... you are too hard! Ok, I'm whining, but it's good times. 6 different modes, and local co-op (if that's your thing).

So the cheevoz this game represents are different from the first in that they require specific actions, but they remain the same in that they are quite difficult to accomplish. You must be zen and one with the world, you must be "the shit" as the kids say.
Unlocked All Modes is the easieast, just play the first game mode enough to unlock the second mode... play the second enough to unlock the third, so on and so forth. There are 6 modes to unlock for this cheev.

Wax On is a nerve racking cheev. You'll unlock this in the "Pacifist" game mode. This mode is a game of cat and mouse, you are the mouse. No guns are allowed... just guile, cunning, and quick thinking. You have to rub your ship along every part of each of the 4 walls. The walls will light up to indicate parts you've already rubbed. No hints here, other than being good.

So that's pretty much it for this week! I'll be racking my brain trying to figure out how to snag some more Geometry Wars 2 ch33v0z. Hopefully finishing up Kane and Lynch, and sending that back to Gamefly. Speaking of Gamefly, a new game is currently on it's way! Battlefield: Bad Company has shipped. Ch33v0z In A Minute!

I've been on a hardcore multi-directional shoot-em-up rampage these past couple of weeks and I thought it would be appropriate for me to show case some of the easy and quick ch33v0z that you might grab. These are all XBLA games, so you can get your cheev on right now!

Assault Heroes

Exterminator-Defeat the giant spider-10G This game is a good one for cheevos, for two reasons. It can be played in co-op mode locally or over live, and you can play the whole game on EASY to get the cheevz! This first ch33v0 can be snagged on the first level of the game. The giant spider is located about half way through the first level. It must be noted that the cheevo unlocks once the zone is completed.


Mutant Storm Reloaded

2x Multiplier-Get the multiplier to x2-5G This is a fun game! I really like it... a lot. It's got 89 levels of bullet laden action, and it's for the hardcore only. That being said, this game has 8 levels of difficulty so you can play the entire game on the lowest level and pick up a good amount of ch33vz. This cheevo requires that you get a 2X multiplier, which means you can't get hit until you get to that multiplier number. The good news is, that it should unlock in the second level on the easiest difficulty... so we are talking about 45 seconds.

Undertow

Dive Master-Get 100 kills. Unlocks a Gamer Picture!-10G
In the world of multi-directional shooters, 100 kills is peanuts. You should have this bad boy unlocked in about 10 minutes... or it's free, guaranteed.



Booyah, get your old school shooter on and unlock some of those sweet ass ch33voz. Be on the lookout for some more SHMUPS, because my thirst is not yet quenched!

I've been pretty busy these last couple of weeks... since no one is willing to pay me to play video games and blog about the sweetest cheevos, I have what some people call a "job". Even with my hectic schedule, I was able to wrangle up a few cheevoz for you folks to enjoy! I have two new games and I even dug deep in the vault and grabbed a couple of Orange Box cheevz!

I expected a cheev grab when I rented this game, but it's actually pretty fun(if you disregard the terrible DJ Atomica, who I want to kill... and who never shuts up)! It's really beautiful, and the crash animations are fantastic. Oh, and road rage is the only event that's worth anything in the game, including the races and stunt runs.

It's all pretty much there in the cheevo descriptions. The licenses are attained an winning a specified number of events. Each time you get a new license, you'll be notified on how many events you need to win to advance to the next license. You also get a notification with each victory. Off The Beaten Path, Great Start, Misdemeanor, Lookin' Good, and Learning To Fly will all just happen during normal gameplay. Just drive around, and those will unlock the first time you play.

Parallel Park ch33v is a tricky one, it will probably require many tries. You have to e-brake slide into the space between to cars, creating a snazzy parallel parking job. What finally worked for me, and has worked consistently is e-braking into a spot at about a 45 degree angle, from about a lane away. As long as you don't smash the cars you are trying to park between, you should be good to go.

It's Showtime and The Show Must Go On aren't very hard, but they are rather boring. Activate showtime mode by pressing right and left bumper, and beat the specified score to get both cheevoz. Just do your first showtime on Crawford Rd(just north of the very first junkyard) and get both at once.

Duckin' And Weavin' , Rising From The Ashes, and Perfect Rage are more about luck than skill. I can't really give you tips.

Spinning Around took me the longest. It's basically pulling an e-brake slide right before you hit a jump. This will cause your car to spin in the air, a.k.a. flatspin. You have to hit a 360 before this one unlocks. I recommend the ramps at the beach, near the first junkyard. Use a car that has high marks for stunts. Be aware of the surrounding, because crashing into something or touching another object stops your flat spin.


The Orange Box: Portal

I decided to get back into a little Portal this week. Remembering what a bitch the advanced maps were, and then also remembering that I had the official game guide for the Orange Box, I went ahead and snagged these two. I'm sure there are plenty of videos that you can use, but I can't put an endorsement on them.

After the greatness that is WOTB: Commando 3, I have been on a run of uni-directional shooters. I need them... I want them. So I'm working my way through the vast selection of SHMUPS on the Arcade and I came across this one. First of all, it's listed as a greatest hit, which means it's only $5. Secondly, it has CO-OP!!! If you know me, you know I loves me some co-op... fo' sho'!

I got the first 3 in the in the very first zone. I played it on Hard, which I've come to find out is NOT necessary. Apparently you can play the game, and get EVERY cheevo on EASY!!!! You might think this is a cheap move, but I'm all about the sweetest cheevos.

So this is an open call to anyone that reads this blog: I want to get 100% on these cheevz and I need a co-op partner! All are welcome! All are welcome!I'm still working on my Timeshift cheevz, that game is proving to rather difficult.
